Bib Aprons are a Necessary Evil in the Foodservice Industry
A couple of years back at the National Restaurant Association tradeshow, I overheard a powerful conversation among a group of chefs and wait staff employees. They were talking about how much they hated wearing that bib apron. They were complaining about how it was rubbing their neck raw, how unsafe it was, how restricted it made them feel and uncomfortable they felt it. One of them even said, “I’ll wear anything as long as it keeps my clothes clean-but I was wish there was something better out there.”
Your people hate wearing their uniforms?
As restaurant owners, corporate leaders and mangers, this is the type of conversation that you will almost never hear out loud (complaining about a uniform is the quickest way to get fired). Your most likely worried about trying to grow the business, direct business operations and mange your crew. The uniform is probably the least of your worries-just give them a shirt put our logo on it and provide them an apron and maybe a hat/visor.
Think about this-what’s a beautiful restaurant with great food and employees that look untidy in aprons that are ill fitting (especially if you are not a neat person) with neck straps that cover-up their embroidered company logo that’s rubbing their neck raw? I’ll tell you, it’s a beautiful restaurant with great food and employees in uniforms that don’t look uniform. The people are your first line of defense when representing your brand, they should they look amazing and feel great too!
Why wouldn’t want to give them the comfort of a shirt with the protection of an apron, where they wear the garment the garment doesn’t wear them! Be the game changer, let your staff know you care about their safety and comfort. Give your customers a reason to come to restaurant to not only for the good food but to enjoy how well your people look. A uniform is not uniform, unless it’s a LF ApronShirt!
